Stoneleigh Youth Orchestra
Fairfield Concert Hall –
Stoneleigh open their Winter Concert with Anna Clyne’s Masquerade. Commissioned in 2013 for the Last Night of the Proms and inspired by the 18th-century London promenade concerts, it has been described by critics as an 'appealingly exuberant curtain raiser'.
This is followed by Glière’s Horn Concerto with guest soloist Sarah Pennington. In her final year studying at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Sarah already is already performing with many of the UK's top orchestras.
The second half of the concert opens with Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances, his final major orchestral work, composed whilst he was living in the USA. Blending influences from his Russian homeland and the world of Jazz that he encountered in New York City, it is a work that features lush harmonies, dance inspired dynamic rhythmic drive and melodies from Russian folk and church music.
Anderson's Christmas Festival brings the concert to a seasonal close!
