Notable engagements elsewhere: roles at La Scala, Milan; Liceu, Barcelona; Aix-en-Provence, Oper Köln, Royal Opera House Muscat, Paris Châtelet, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, WNO, Almeida Opera, Bregenzer Festspiele, Wiener Festwochen, Hamburg Kammerspiele, Garsington, Grange Park and Holland Park. Numerous performances at Aldeburgh Festivals include Pierrot lunaire, Ariadne auf Naxos, Façade, Enoch Arden, The Cricket Recovers, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Arlecchino. He has sung the G&S ‘patter’ roles at the Savoy Theatre and throughout the world, including Bunthorne Patience (BBC Proms/Sir Charles Mackerras) and appeared in Mike Leigh’s Oscar-winning G&S film, Topsy-Turvy.

Writing credits include: a new play for Let’s Make and Opera and a new narration for The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra (Britten Estate commissions), the television films A Salaried Wit and A Gooseberry Fool, the television series A Motley Pair (all for Sky Arts and all of which he also presented) and he wrote and directed the drama series I Am The Very Model of a Modern Major General (BBC).
