Dance Festival Croydon showcases and celebrates the diversity of contemporary dance for Croydon audiences. Curated by Beeja, the 2019 festival has included a series of four one-day events, the last of which will be presented as a part of Dance Umbrella’s Fairfield Takeover at Fairfield Halls.

Dance Festival Croydon presents exciting and eclectic programmes of performance by renowned Croydon-based, national and international dance companies and artists.
The Dance Festival Croydon event at Fairfield Halls will celebrate local Croydon talent and includes the following performances:


A playful duet between a dancer and a cellist, offering space for contemplation and reflection.

Alleyne Dance
A Night’s Game reflects the turmoil and strife of human emotion when faced with the prospect of incarceration.

Company Concentric
In Swapping Shadows, two dancers attempt to walk in each other’s footsteps, drawing from Bharatanatyam and contemporary techniques.

Girls In Front
As a part of Dance Umbrella’s Access Croydon programme a project titled Girls In Front was initiated to offer contemporary dance activity for girls aged 11-18 years based in Croydon. The group will be performing a new dance piece as a part of Dance Festival Croydon choreographed by Sara Dos Santos.

Next Level – New work by young Croydon choreographers
Next Level is a new programme for Croydon-based choreographers aged 16-24 years delivered by Dance Umbrella in partnership with Dance Festival Croydon.
Over the course of the programme two selected choreographers will develop their choreographic skills and be supported to create a new dance piece.
The final versions of the works will be presented as a part of Dance Festival Croydon.

Sugar Army
An excerpt from Oona Doherty’s HARD TO BE SOFT – A BELFAST PRAYER will be performed by students from the Brit School.

With increased capacity of over 800 seats the Ashcroft Playhouse will present seasons of plays and musicals as well as being home to local community performances and events.  Seasons of live cinema broadcasts will also feature in the programme.
